Dear Family, friends, and generous strangers,
My name is Ashley Harrell and I am launching this go-fund-me for my 95-year-old Grandmother, Martha Kearney. She is running out of her savings and she will very soon be relying solely on her monthly social security payments. She is currently a resident of an independent living facility near me (Charleston, SC) and she loves it there - but she will not be allowed to stay there if she can’t pay the rent. I truly believe that if we moved her somewhere else she would perish quickly, and the thought of that breaks my heart.
She doesn't know that I am creating this fundraiser and would probably not like the idea because she is a proud woman, but I am determined to raise enough money so that she can live the last years of her life in a happy place where she has friends and where she feels content – she deserves that.
I have spent months researching options and talking with various organizations, and although many folks have tried looking into different options, unfortunately, they have all led to dead ends.
As some of you may know, our family tragically/suddenly lost my twin brother Austin Catlett last year and we are all still struggling from the magnitude of that loss. The stress and depression that my Grandmother is experiencing due to losing her grandson coupled with her running out of her money and believing she is going to have to move at the age of 95, is heart-wrenching. She is still very alert and in good health and is terrified of ending up in a not-so-nice nursing home. NO ONE should have to worry about money or their living situation at the age of 95!
With the help of your donations coupled with her monthly social security payments, she will be able to live out her last few years happily, and I want that for her more than anything.
I am not usually the type of person to ask for help (especially money), but my love and devotion for my wonderful grandmother has given me the courage to do so.
