The Million Woman March (MWM) is the first grassroots assembly to produce more than a million people
without the use of mass media, corporate sponsoring, major benefactors, and/or high profile personalities or a nationally recognized group/organization in the forefront as its conveners, spokespersons, etc. MWM has remained an independent organ and self-determined entity
from the time of its conception to present day and is therefore, now, a socio-political incomparable power base in its own right.
This historic 1997 Million Woman March
included speakers such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the daughters of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, Dr. Dorothy Height, Dick Gregory, Congressman John Conyers, Jada Pinkett Smith, Blair Underwood, Faith Evans, Sis Khadijah Muhammad, and of course Queen Winnie Mandela; to name a few.
