Mutual Aid for Black Liberation and Wellness

Donation protected
A national movement for justice has mobilized around the world following the tragic murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25, 2020.

People are organizing through protests, mutual aid, and community action, connecting people in solidarity to demand racial justice. Many community members are activated and joining together to be heard with the possibility that, even while taking precautions, they might be exposed to Covid-19.

The Movement for Black Lives health policy platform states, “Black people across the U.S. have a shorter life expectancy, higher rates of stress-related medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and unmet mental health needs, higher rates of chronic health issues, devastating rates of Black maternal and infant mortality, and high rates of mortality among our trans and gender nonconforming family.”

In this time of awakening, people all over the world are looking towards a Black-led movement leading to freedom from injustice in the health care system and all systems that support racism.

The latest data surrounding Covid-19 suggests that Black people who contract the virus have died from the disease at almost three times the rate of white people. It is anticipated that many activists may be exposed to the virus. And although the numbers of Covid-19 cases in the weeks following the uprising were lower than expected, people of color made up 40 percent of those tested, but 90 percent of the positives!

WE CAN create a strong, cooperative community response that supports the health of the Black activist community and those who contract Covid-19 or have other health challenges.

In the spirit of the ancestors, Mutual Aid for Black Liberation and Wellness has been created. The funding and donated supplies will move much needed, FREE health resources into our community. Mutual Aid for Black Liberation and Wellness will distribute Wellness Kits, which include both western and alternative medicines, immune-supporting products, healthy food, and nutritional supplements.

There are two Wellness Kits available:

Boost Kit: This kit includes products that boost the immune system, such as vitamins, herbs, teas, and other supplements, foods with antioxidants, probiotics, and high nutritional value. PPE such as soap, masks, and hand sanitizer also included.

Activate Kit:  Also includes thermometer, pain reliever (acetaminophen), cough drops, and comfort care items such as bath salts, candles, etc) to help in recovery from illness
.
The funds raised will provide small stipends to outreach workers who will distribute the Wellness Kits wherever they are needed.

Supporting Mutual Aid for Liberation and Wellness is a powerful and effective way you can help to care for activists in the community now!
