Music Emergency! Glennon Center Piano Destroyed
Donation protected
The disaster with the broken pipes at the Glennon Center is a hit to the entire City that will take some time to recover. However, one group has a bona fide Music Emergency - the Music Teachers Association of Tega Cay (MTATC) is a relatively nascent group of local piano teachers who banded together to expand access to music for local students.
GOFUNDME GOALS – Replace the Piano
- The group evaluated a NEW piano that can be purchased for $9,000.
- A newer piano will require less maintenance, carry better sound, and be an asset that impacts generations of Tega Cayans.
- The MTATC will maintain the piano and manage its use.
- Teachers and others will rent the piano for events, and fees will be used towards maintenance.
- Estimated annual maintenance, including insurance, is expected to be $680 per year.
Before the accident, the group had the following critical assets:
- A leasable room and instrument for community members, including music teachers. The City of Tega Cay graciously provided space at the Glennon Center to house the piano.
- The older baby grand piano was an awesome gift from a local family. Due to its age and condition, it did require some initial repairs and maintenance paid for privately by members of the MTATC.
- Dreams, ideas, and goals to promote music in our community. The space and piano were used for recitals and local group gatherings.
What if they don't raise $9,000 in this gofundme?
- They *may* receive some insurance proceeds from the City's policy, up to $1,200. They'll update you on this as they're updated.
- They have asked for local music supporters to donate.
- They will evaluate lower-cost options.
