OUR STORY

Once upon a time, Mandi and I (Graham) got hitched. Like most people, we figured whenever we were ready to start a family, it would come easily. So we spent the first few years of our life together building our careers (Mandi is a Doctor of Physical Therapy; Graham is a mental health counselor) and figuring out how to be married. 

Then six years ago, we decided we were ready to start a family. We began naturally (as you do), but were unable to get pregnant. Gradually, we added in simple interventions: naturopaths, acupuncture, supplements, diet changes--all with no impact. With no diagnosed "reason" for our lack of pregnancy, we got more serious about fertility intervention: by now, we've worked with a variety of fertility specialists and have undergone (among other things) countless ultrasounds, semen analyses, invasive tests and polyp surgery for Mandi and five rounds of Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI). We have, at this time, spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on fertility treatment. 

For all that, we managed to get pregnant just once, in May 2019. It was the best moment of our life together--seeing a positive pregnancy test and dreaming of parenthood. Sadly, we lost the baby at five weeks due to miscarriage. It was the hardest thing we've experienced as a couple; it gave us pause and made us wonder if we should keep going or give up entirely. 

Ultimately, our miscarriage made us realize how badly we wanted a child. We know it's possible for us to get pregnant and we know we will regret it for the rest of our lives if we stop without giving pregnancy everything we have.

That's why we're here, and we hope that's why you're here: to help us make a Murtaugh by donating and sharing this campaign with others who would be willing to support us. 

COST BREAKDOWN

We're working with Seattle Reproductive Medicine  through a program called Attain. The base cost of this program is $28,100; this covers two (2) egg retrievals, fertilization of all embryos, storing the embryos, and unlimited transfers of embryos (implanting in the uterus). However, that doesn't include the extra costs of medications (and there are lots of medications) embryo testing, ultrasounds and provider visits. When you add all that in, and account for 2 rounds of IVF, the total cost is approximately $45,000. Below you'll find a print out from SRM detailing all those costs. 

Insurance doesn't cover any of this. Mandi and I are contributing $10,000 of our nest egg to this. Family have offered some donations, but it's not enough to close the gap. And that's why we're asking you to please donate and share this campaign with others who would be willing to support us.
