Hello, Murrysville! My name is Christina Donahoe, and I am a full-time muralist and sign painter who was born and raised in Export. Over three years ago, I offered to install a mural over the graffitied underpass beneath Route 22 in Murrysville. Located near the Cozy Inn Cutoff, this PennDOT-owned space has been a target for vandalism for decades and the hateful messages among the graffiti are an unavoidable eye-sore for the thousands who enjoy the Westmoreland Heritage Trail.
I am beyond excited to share that, with the help of PennDOT and the Municipality of Murrysville, I have received final approval to begin this project Spring of 2026! After cleaning and preparing the walls, a community mural will be installed over the vandalized space. To preserve the mural and prevent future issues, it will be sealed with an anti-graffiti clear coat.
I will be paying out of pocket for the materials, and I am donating my labor, original design, and expertise to accomplish this. While the project will be moving forward regardless of any external funding, in the last three years I have had countless people ask how they can contribute towards the cause. Any donations on this platform will help to offset the $9,070 in supply cost, and anything in excess would go towards the hundreds of hours of labor needed to complete it.
I hope this mural will not only beautify an otherwise grey walled space, but also end the hateful, explicit and violent messages that have been prevalent on these walls. Any potential generosity is not expected, but will certainly be appreciated! I cannot wait for you to see it, and I hope it reflects the beauty we see in the rest of our beloved trail and in our community!
