My name is Patrice Glover, and I am the sister of Henry Glover, who was murdered by the New Orleans Police Department in 2005. For years, I fought to get justice for my brother.
You can learn more about his story in Fire on the Levee: The Murder for Henry Glover and the Search for Justice After Hurricane Katrina, by Jared Fishman with Joseph Hooper.
Even 18 years after my brother’s death, I still haven’t had time to properly heal from the loss. The wounds are still fresh. In the years since my brother was killed, I have been the rock that has kept the family together through innumerable tough times. I am a single mother of three, and I also care for my mother, Ms. Edna Glover. To meet my obligations, I work two jobs, often exceeding 15-hour days.
I have recently learned that budget cuts will result in the elimination of one of my jobs. I must continue to support my children and my mother.
I am trying to raise money to gain the much-needed space to heal and upskill. I am hoping to raise enough money to support my family and take job certification courses so I can build the skills needed for a better paying job. I am hoping to raise enough money to cover my expenses for six months so that I can finally have the space to heal.
Thank you for your support.
Patrice.
