Mungery Hall Pergola Extension

Hi, my name is Stuart, I live in Melbourne but was born and raised in Dubbo, a country town in central NSW, Australia.
I was recently chatting to an old school friend who has a large property in the Mungery district, near Dubbo or 45km south west of Narromine. He was describing the state of the country as a result of the horrible drought conditions they are currently facing. He expressed his despair over how tough it is now let alone how many years it will take for the land to recover from the effects of the current dry conditions.
I remember when i lived in Dubbo we had two large dust storms in approx. 22 years, due to severe drought at those times. Last year and this year, so far, they have had dozens!! That's a visual indication of the situation as it stands to date. These dust storms result in the loss of precious top soil from properties all over the region which will take years to replace.
What does that mean?? It means farmers have to regenerate top soil through careful farm practices and good management. This takes time. In the meantime farm communities livelihoods has been affected greatly. People are struggling and doing it tough.
So why am I here? A few friends wanted to band together to help my friend and his family directly however, in true country style, he has told us that our focus could be better directed at solving a problem that would reach out to the greater community.
FUND THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MUNGERY HALL PERGOLA!
The Mungery Hall is the focal point for the community and it's social activities. It's used for most of the community’s events like birthday, weddings, dances, church services, CWA morning teas and the annual picnic races.
The old pergola, which adjoins the hall, needed replacing as it was too old, small and hot during the summer months.
It was recently demolished, via a working bee, the new slab has been poured and paid for, now we need to get the new shade structure erected. This will provide a more user-friendly outdoor space.
The community, who tirelessly raise funds for various charities, are now at a point where they can't afford to finish the job.
A local builder has quoted $38,000 to complete the works. This GoFundMe page and its proceeds will go directly towards funding the Mungery Hall Pergola Extension.
Funds will be transferred to the committee, via my personal bank account, who will be organising the works. Once the funds have been raised works will commence asap.
Now it's time to give back to a community who has given so much, is doing it tough and needs a hand themselves.
