Mum Vs Corona - Book Now, Party Later
Donation protected

As a self employed musician who completely depends on performing and recording sessions to pay my bills, this is a particularly hard time, as myself and most of my peers have had our entire year of work cancelled. I will, however, find a way to make a living and am positive I can get through this by doing remote recording sessions, online lessons, songwriting and other things…
This situation, however, is entirely to do with my mum (pictured above)
My gorgeous mum, Gizella (who was once an incredibly worldly and well travelled, 4 languages speaking, ass kicking, business woman in her hay day), is sadly severely disabled with a horrible degenerative illness (currently still undiagnosed after years of testing) similar to post polio/MS.
She has been wheelchair bound for the last 10 years.
She’s always remained positive and has been a huge inspiration to me despite the tough cards she’s been dealt.
Sadly she got infected by Covid-19 and has been fighting the virus in hospital for the last 2 weeks in Berlin (where I was born and where she still lives)… She has been having an utterly traumatic time in hospital, as she is completely isolated; because of her underlying illness she can’t turn in bed, sit up on her own, go to the toilet, wash or brush her teeth. At home she’s had a full time live-in carer for the last 8 years who helps, but because of the corona pandemic her recent live-in carer suddenly decided to leave and go back to Macedonia to be with her family.
I am now flying out to Berlin this Wed to become a full time carer for my mum, as it’s proving extremely hard to find anyone else who can come out to Berlin while this pandemic is going on. I do, however, need to find someone locally who is actually an experienced carer, so I can come back to London and try and continue working and making a living somehow. Having done some research I have realised the the costs for local full time live-in carers in Berlin is way beyond what either my mum or I could pay at this time.
We will need to pay at least 2000€ a month, so I am trying to raise 6000€ to find someone for 3 months until things calm down and one of her lovely previous carers from Serbia is able to travel back to Germany to move in with her again.
I am not asking for charity by any means, but purely for a little booking in advance after the madness of this pandemic is over.
Do you want a little duo or trio gig at a summer garden party or a private and intimate little living room gig for just you and your closest friends?
For a trio gig I would usually charge £2000 (including expenses, musicians, instruments etc), but I am happy to do 2 separate engagements for a total of £3000 just to try and get the money together to help my mum.
Of course I’d be very happy to do something on a smaller scale for a smaller donation as well.
£150 for all my released CDs (signed and sent in the post), plus 2 VIP tickets to Ronnie Scott’s and any personalised sung video message for a loved one (I.e Happy Birthday for your child or any other family member)
Or a 30 min live streamed gig exclusively for you and your friends via Zoom where you can pick the set list and make requests with a donation starting from around £300.
(Obviously this option could only take place once I’m back from Berlin after caring for mum, but my guess is that we’ll be stuck in this situation for a while yet and I know there won’t be any real live gigs happening for a while, so this could be something fun to look forward to)
I am so determined to go home and make her better. She has still never been able to see me perform at Ronnie Scotts in the 13 years I have been the resident singer there and she was meant to come out (with her carer) this June, which obviously won’t happen. I would so love for her to come next year tho. I have so much to thank her for and she’s the only immediate family I have.
After all of this is over, I’m sure the whole world will rejoice and be in need of a celebration.
I will be here for your party music singing duties…
Loads of love and stay safe
