Mulago Hospital Clinical Rotation

Hi friends and family,
As most of you know I am pursing a career in rural global health. I am about done with my formal education at Yale as a Family Nurse Practitioner and have plans to go to Uganda for six weeks starting mid-January to do a clinical rotation at Mulago Hospital. Mulago Hospital is the national referral hospital and the teaching hospital of Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Makerere University is considered Uganda’s premier institution of higher learning and the University’s College of Health Sciences has long been considered East Africa’s top medical school. Yale University and Makerere University have created a collaboration that brings residents, medical, PA and nursing students from Yale to Mulago Hospital and doctors and residents from Makerere University to Yale New Haven Hospital to facilitate an exchange in learning. MUYU is a partnership that aims to strengthen clinical training, medical education, diagnostic laboratory infrastructure, and research. The program is not a medical tourism model- it thrives because every participant brings his/her knowledge, dedication to medicine, and love of teaching to the forefront.
My time in Uganda will be spent in the 1500-bed Mulago Hospital where patients present at a later stage of illness and the resources to care for them are relatively limited. I will be participating in daily patient rounds, home visits and variety of other educational exchanges. To help aid my travel costs, I am turning to family and friends to help sponsor me and relieve some of the costs that would allow me to participate. Please join me in supporting the critical medical care and work that I will be doing for the people and families in Uganda. Any support you can give will make a tremendous difference, be the donation large or small. Even one dollar would help!
