We are Abayuuti Action Community Group, and we have organised this fundraiser to help over 140 households living in Muhokya IDP Camp in Kasese, Uganda.

The camp has over 1,300 people, who once owned homes and farms for home and comercial use and lost it all to climate disasters, including floods and landslides. These were not natural, but caused by Western capitalists who extracted minerals from Kasese in 1950, leaving the topography of the land completely distorted and unstable.

This project is to provide emergency support and a sustainable form of living to these people whose lives now are stuck in the camp. With no reliable work or form of support, they are not only being hit by the COVID crisis but also severe effects of climate change.

There is an emergency need of beddings, taurpalins, mosquito nets, and scholastic materials for children who resumed with school in January of 2022. They have spent two years without attending school due to a long closure of schools by the government due to COVID.

However, we also look foward longer term support by providing women with sewing machines and equipping them with skills to use them. Then they will be able to sew torn clothes for their families living in the camp, as well as sew outsiders' clothes as a source of money.

Additionally, they will be able to make free reusable sanitary pads for girls in the camp who can't attend school during their menstrual days. We also hope to provide seeds and garden tools to each family and place water tapping sources near the gardens and camp.
