Happy 6th Anniversary Acqua Dive! Well, that is what we would love to have been posting about, but the stark reality is quite the opposite. Acqua Dive is closed and has been since mid-March, not a single guest has passed through the doors. This is the sad reality we face now, and most probably for at least the next 2-3 months. Possibly through the end of the year.
Unfortunately for our team, this is a devastating situation. Tourism is at a standstill in Dumaguete (and pretty much the whole of the Philippines for that matter.) With strict quarantine rules in place, and no domestic travel allowed the Acqua Team are truly starting to struggle with no income and families to feed.
While in the early stages we provided relief in additional payments, 13th month in advance and so on this was only sustainable for the first month or so. There are still many expenses payable just keeping the resort on life support, hopefully, to return when matters start to turn around when the virus abates or vaccines and treatments become available.
We had wanted to avoid this step, but now feel compelled to reach out to past guests and friends of Acqua Dive for any contributions you may be able to make that we can pass onto the Acqua team to help them and their families through the next few months. These contributions are to go towards the team only, any operational expenses will be paid out by the resort.
We are targeting to raise US$5000/AUD7500 that we believe will go a long way towards sustaining the team for the next 3-4 months. Any contributions we receive will be distributed evenly and over a period of time to make sure that it is used wisely and for the daily necessities of team members and their families.
