Mt. Adams Community Trails Fund

With uncertainties in federal funding and staffing looming over the 2025 summer recreation season, we are organizing an effort to assist the US Forest Service in clearing and maintaining trails on the Mt. Adams Ranger District of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

How will this work?

With your support, we will fund the Mt Adams Resource Stewards (MARS) crew to clear debris from high-use, high-priority trails on the Mt. Adams District this spring. MARS has a pre-existing agreement to collaborate with the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and will operate under the direction of the District’s Recreation Operations Lead. What’s our initial goal?

We aim to fund MARS crew work to clear at least 15-25 mi of trails in May 2025, targeting lower-elevation trails on the south side of Mt. Adams that receive high use in the spring and early summer (including those trails utilized by the Trout Lake Endurance Ride and Wild Woman Trail Runs events in June). Four days of a 5-person saw-qualified squad runs approximately $8500, so that’s our first fundraising goal!

Where do we go from here?

We know that trails are cherished by so many who find peace, wonder, solitude, and challenge in the Mt. Adams landscape. Pending community interest, we’d love to broaden our efforts to support trail stewardship into the future, whether that means expanding our partnership with USFS, engaging with other land managers, scoping new trail development, organizing volunteer work parties, supporting winter recreation, or whatever else the community may prioritize.
