Earlier this month, we faced a devastating setback. Our storage trailer at the Melbourne Shakespeare Company office was stolen, taking with it the heart and soul of our upcoming productions. The stolen items include the entire set for our family musical Adventures in Neverland (scheduled for December 2024), essential pieces from our recent production of The Whale, and many other valuable set items we've reused in our performances throughout the years.
As a not-for-profit arts organisation, our commitment to sustainability means we carefully craft and reuse our sets, reducing waste and maximising resources. These stolen items weren't just props and backdrops; they were an integral part of our mission to deliver high-quality, environmentally conscious theatre to the Melbourne community.
While the theft has been reported to the police, we fear these items have been discarded, as they hold little value to anyone but us and yet will cost us $10,000+ to replace. Without these sets, seating banks and other logistical items, our summer productions are at risk, and we need your help to rebuild and continue our work.
We are asking for your support to replace these stolen items. Every contribution will bring us closer to restoring what was lost and ensuring that we can continue to produce theatre here in Melbourne.
Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time.
