My name is Rebecca Ketelsen and I am the President of Firemen's Park in the Prairie also known as the The Sun Prairie Dream Park. The Sun Prairie Dream Park was built in September, 2007 by hundreds of volunteers who came together for an entire week to build a handicapped accessible play land for kids of all ages. We are run 100% by volunteers and receive NO FUNDING from the city of Sun Prairie. Everything from bathrooom cleaning to repairs to maintaing the grounds is done by our volunteers and the fundraising we do pays for toilet paper, new equiptment, lighting and more. For more information about who we are, please visit our facebook page at Sun Prairie Dream Park.
Normally we fundraise by doing an annual fundraiser that helps pay for our yearly expenses. However, On April 1st, 2016 our playground was vandalized and thousands of dollars of damange was done. The Lion's head drinking fountain was pulled out of the ground and damaged, fencing was kicked in and broken, rubber bridges were sliced with blades and the bulletin board plexiglass was smashed among other things. While we need money to get things repaired, what we desperately need money for is to get cameras installed around the playground as soon as possible to help prevent this from happening again. Our location and proximity to electricy and buildings, etc make it more costly than most places to install this type of equipment.
This playground is used by thousands and thousands of kids every year and one of Sun Prairie's most beloved parks not only for the amazing playground but for the 150 year old Oak trees and green space that lets kids explore and commune with nature.
No one has the power to shatter our hope and love for this wonderful playground that is free to anyone who wants to use it. Please help me raise the money to protect what so many people in Sun Prairie treasure!
