Mr. Penney's Statue Goes Home
Donation protected
Join us in helping the City of Kemmerer, Wyoming, establish a permanent home for the statue of Mr. Penney. To help Mr. Penney get set up in his new location, all people who have enjoyed shopping and/or working at this beloved and historical company are invited to donate to this fund.
Vacating the corporate office in Plano, Texas, in December presented a dilemma…what to do with the 9’ tall 4000 lb. bronze statue of James Cash Penney that had stood tall in the building for nearly 30 years. JCPenney representatives reached out to the city leaders in Kemmerer, Wyoming, home of the first JCPenney store. The leaders accepted the donation and agreed to set up a permanent location for the statue. On January 29, 2021, the statue arrived by truck in Kemmerer after a 1,200-mile journey.
The estimate to dismantle, store, transport, reassemble and weatherproof the statue is $15,000. So that this cost is not a burden to the 2734 citizens--including children--of Kemmerer, the National H.C.S.C. Alumni Club has launched this GoFundMe drive.
The donation through GoFundMe is not tax-deductible. If you wish to claim a tax-deduction, you may mail a check to Natasia Diers, City of Kemmerer, 220 State Hwy. 233, Kemmerer, WY 83101. Add Attn: JCPenney Statue Donation Fund.
The City of Kemmerer administrators are also reaching out to local businesses to donate. If the amount of money raised exceeds the $15,000 estimate, a fund will be established for ongoing maintenance of the statue.
Give today! Any amount is welcomed.
