Barrett Family in Need After Asbestos Hardship

Hi, my name is Lisa Torgersen and I am asking for help for my sister Julie Barrett and her family. As this year has been a difficult one for many as a result of the pandemic, my sister and her family have been hit hard and are struggling now more than ever. I know that my sister won’t ask for help which I why I’m asking for her.

Recently, Julie and her family were forced to leave their home for the time being as they were just made aware of asbestos contamination within their home. They are temporarily staying with family but are split up as no one had enough room to take all of them in together. Estimates have determined that the abatement of the asbestos alone would cost between 16,000 and 24,000. This does not include the cost of reconstruction (they are still trying to get estimates for that). Insurance will only cover a small portion. Not only that, but they will need to replace all their porous/soft belongings such as their furniture, mattresses, carpets and all of their clothing. They don’t have enough finances to make this happen or walk away from their house and find somewhere new. They are living on only one income from Julie’s husband, Bobby as Julie had to stop working to care for their daughter Nora who has a rare genetic disorder (Cri du Chat syndrome). Nora also has been diagnosed with PCD (Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia) which makes it even more dangerous for her to breathe any asbestos as it leaves her ability to filter any contaminants she breathes in significantly impaired. They have been extra cautious during this COVID mess to make sure Nora isn’t exposed since she is considered high risk but little did they know their own home was an even bigger danger all this time. I haven’t even held or hugged my niece/goddaughter since all of this has started which breaks my heart. Julie is overcome with worry about the possibility of permanent damage to her kids healths.  She has 2 sons in addition to Nora. They are also expecting another baby in a few weeks. They do not want to expose their new baby to any of this. Julie is under an extreme amount of stress which isnt healthy for herself or the baby. Instead of relaxing at the end of her pregnancy she is trying to deal with all this.  They just want to all be able to go home to a safe place with their family reunited. Please help save their home!
