Moving Fund -GET THE HELL OUTTA DODGE(California)

Hi all! My name is Holiday Varnadore.

I have lived up and down this same street in San Diego since 1997. I have loved California - This is the longest I have lived in any neighborhood in all of my life. I've been here since I was 24 years old. I got married here. I got unmarried here. I built my career here. I had a child here. I have friends here.

As I said, I have LOVED California... but it turns out that California has not LOVED me back.

Rents here keep increasing. I am currently sharing a 1 bedroom apartment with my son. I sleep on the couch and have for about 5 years. Our apartment is 600 square feet and costs me $2179 per month. That is not a typo.

Along with a huge rent payment, we get the added ambiance of constant construction and a new fire station that inserted itself a few blocks away. I am all for firemen and firewomen (firepeople whatever) BUT the layout of these streets make it so that they must by law announce themselves with sirens immediately. Immediately just happens to coincide with my patio.

Another challenge is that the city has decided that they are going to demolish my apartment complex and build a high-rise on this footprint... so the clock is ticking. I have contacted the city and they say we have about 6 months before the permits come through.

So with that happening, I had been looking around - BUT the cheapest rents in San Diego/most of California for a 2 bedroom start around 2500. Also, not a typo.

So given all that information.... My son, Sam and I have no choice but to leave this state.

SO WHY DO I NEED YOUR HELP?

Well, I have a good job - a great job. But I also have crippling rent and bills and Sam's father is about $13,000 behind on child support. By the time I pay what bills I can there is nothing left for things like food. Definitely nothing left for this crazy idea I have to flee whilst I can.

I will get a tax return and that will help - but given my age now and medical/physical condition - I am not going to be able to move by myself. I am going to need to get movers. I also need to get a place so will need Rent and deposit there.

My guesstimation is between 4K and 8K will get me out of this place without kllling me and or getting my booty evicted in the process of juggling these balls.

I do not think that I am going back to South Carolina - my thought is to just go as far as I can drive in one day given that I have 2 Cats, 1 turtle and 1 twelve year old son.
