I am raising funds to help my mum with a long-distance relocation to be closer to where I live due to a terrible situation she is in.
Three years ago, she moved into sheltered accommodation, but she's been harassed by a neighbour ever since. It started with her plants and shrubs in her front garden—none blocked pathways or were on the adjoining property, but the neighbour kept chopping them down. The harassment escalated to verbal abuse, name calling and eventually extreme physical threats of violence. It has got so bad my mum now feels anxious every time she steps outside, avoiding visibility to escape the hostility. Recently, the neighbour made malicious allegations to the police and council, resulting in my mum being questioned and detained twice.
My mum struggles to defend herself. She doesn’t retaliate and ignores the abuse, which has only emboldened the neighbour who mocks and bullies my mum openly. I wanted to confront her but wish to avoid worsening the situation or provoking further false police claims. Despite attempts to install CCTV and doorbell cameras, the council’s help was limited—she lacks internet access at home to set them up.
The neighbour appears to have close allies amongst long-standing residents, whom she may persuade to target individuals she dislikes. A former elderly Asian resident was once also a victim of similar abuse. My mum, of Greek descent with darker skin, has faced comments with racial undertones.
I support her as much as possible financially, as her limited pension covers only basic living expenses, but she has no savings and is unable to find a suitable, affordable home through council or online swap systems, which are hard for her to navigate. Legal options are costly, complicated, and unlikely to yield results; a lawyer suggested just moving far away.
After exhausting all options and feeling overwhelmed, this fundraiser was my last resort. With your help, I hope to raise enough to move her into a private rental.
Estimated costs:
- £650–£750 for a deposit
- £700 for moving services
- £300–£400 for packing and miscellaneous expenses
Any surplus will go toward furniture, as she has sold some belongings to facilitate the move. Your support will help her start afresh in a safer, more peaceful place. Thank you.
