Hi, my name is Erika and I am a volunteer in an organisation in Kampala (Uganda), which works with the most vulnerable communities in the city.
Due to urban expansion, along with the unequal distribution of resources, many low-income, densely packed areas are seeing a dramatic rise in socio-economic deprivation, alongside environmental degradation.
Their mission is to empower these affected people and facilitate their socio-economic development through finding sustainable solutions to community problems.
My main activity here is to work with the children of these communities. And during my time here, i have addressed some needs. One, which is very important is the fact that these communities are built on what used to be a swamp, and the current infrastructure is very basic: dirt and unpaved roads and holes. This means that when it rains, many of the roads flood or turn to mud, making it difficult for the children to get to school (the rainy season in Uganda lasts 6 months: from March to May and from September to November).
To alleviate this situation, we need rain boots and raincoats so that the children can go to school every day.
The idea is to cover around 400 children, the most vulnerable of the communities, with a raincoat and a pair of boots. Can you help us?
