SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT

Australian Development Capital (ADC) has lodged a $48.8 million Development Application (DA) to redevelop the Wellington street neighbourhood centre into a multi-storey apartment and retail block. This DA has been made directly to the WA Department of Planning, through the State Development Assessment Unit (SDAU).

Of note, the Mosman Park Town Council rejected ADC's Local Development Plan in November 2020.

ADC’s revised plans will only be released on the 20th July, at which time the opportunity for public comment opens. The public will have a minimum period of 28 days to respond.

SDAU has noted that MHAG is an interested party and will have the opportunity to present a submission at the panel’s hearing.

With 28 days to respond during the public comment period, this leaves the Mosman Park community limited time to formulate submissions. The community needs to act now.

MHAG is in position to retain lawyer Margie Tannock, again to assist in the SDAU submission. Ms Tannock has significant experience in planning and governance law and is a member of the State Design Review Panel so is aware of the issues to be addressed by SDAU in considering a DA.

It’s proposed that Ms Tannock will prepare a submission both to council and to SDAU on behalf of MHAG seeking the DA be refused (should it not comply with the sites R60 zoning), appear before SDAU if necessary and advise on investigations which MHAG should undertake to assist in preparations of its submission. This may include additional expert reports to assist in the submissions.

We also intend to engage a public relations consultant to assist in liaising with the media and producing media material to draw the community’s attention to the proposed DA.

To advocate for responsible development on this site, we need assistance from the best consultants and legal professionals. To hire their services and enable us to put forward the best argument possible, we need funding from the community. Last year our Go Fund Me page raised the funds needed to successfully knock their development proposal back.

The community needs to raise at least $20,000.00 to be assured we can retain these professionals to assist in objecting to inappropriate development.

Please click on the link to make a donation on our Go Fund Me page. Together we have a chance to protect our community and foster good, appropriate development for the future and protect our neighbourhood from developers seeking to override local council planning schemes.
