Drug addiction is a lonely thing. Your friends slowly drift away from you, your family inevitably gets overwhelmed by you, and eventually you have no one. No one to talk to, no one to be with and suddenly you're all alone in a time when you need someone the most.
Moshe passed away due to a drug addiction on May 23, 2018. In the days leading up to his death, Moshe felt isolated because of his troubles and did not have the necessary support system of people to turn to. This reality is shared by many people struggling with addiction and it is the motivation behind this initiative.
The Moshe Project was started with the idea that people just need someone, anyone to listen to them or even just to hang out with them once in a while. The idea is that you have a person to hang out with, go see a movie with, or go on a cholent date with just to help you cope and keep moving forward; A once a week phone call or meeting with a stand up individual who is just there as a confidant.
We are looking to raise money for the Moshe Project- to help teens, adults and their families cope with the turbulent lifestyle of having drug addiction in their family.
Through the help of this campaign we will be creating a website that will raise awareness for the project, its goals and sign up mentors and addicts to get the process started. We will be interviewing people for the confidant positions in order to build a community based network. The confidants will consist of social workers, lawyers, Rabbanim, doctors, accountants and business men & women. We will collaborate with the many organizations that on a daily basis help deal with the struggle of addiction.
The goal is not to heal addiction, because we all know that it is a lifelong struggle but to make sure those who are struggling are not alone, and most of all that they don't feel alone. We want them to KNOW that they have someone on their side to listen to them, to hear them, and to go to bat for them.
