Hello World!
My name is Deena Shaar, from the Bay Area, and I’m volunteering with Team Humanity for two weeks next month at Moria Camp in Greece.
Moria Camp is a very dire place to be. Families, including those with newborns, are sleeping in summer tents. Doctors Without Borders reported that a 10 year old tried to commit suicide. Water is limited. And it takes an enormous effort just to get coats and shoes. Children have witnessed stabbings and are victims of other crimes.
I’ll be stationed in the Hope & Peace Center, which sees 700-800 refugee children a day, from Syria, Afghanistan and many other places. This center provides the children with a sense of normalcy during this chaotic period of their lives. At night, the center also serves as a winter shelter.
Team Humanity is also working on a Women’s Center, which will be carpeted and include a kitchen. For this winter it will also serve as a place to sleep for many refugees.
Please help me provide a safe and warm refuge by raising funds for Team Humanity’s Women’s Center.
I committed to raising $6000 USD and already raised $1100. Some of you may have already contributed directly to Team Humanity and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Since they are an overseas organization and US security on credit cards might make it tough to donate, I decided to start this go fund me.
Anything in excess of $4900 raised will be used to buy necessities upon my arrival, eg shoes, clothes, etc for the refugees. Buying directly from Greece will also help their economy.
I’ll transfer the funds for the Women’s center to Team Humanity via PayPal. And for any purchases I make for refugees, I can post receipts for transparency.
