With the Sweet Shop closed, you may be missing the famous 'spuds' handmade by the Sweet Shop volunteers. The good news in that they are available at the Artisans Collective in Ellen Strert.
Our local volunteers thank you for supporting our fundraiser efforts. These efforts are to fund the legal costs to reinstate the Moonta branch - Local control of the Moonta Mines National Trust site.
The court diections hearing in the Supreme Court is 12th June at 10am.
Why do we need to fight?
On 23 February, the National Trust of South Australia made the decision to dissolve the Moonta Branch Committee. The committee members were suspended with claims of noncompliance that we strongly dispute, This action occurred without procedural fairness,
The site was closed, and building locks were changed during one of the busiest periods of the year,
It is now the 18th April, and the dispute has not been resolved. The committees has not been reinstated and the site is closed. This closure includes the train, museum, sweet shop, history center and the miners cottage. To our volunteers and the Moonta community- this is devastating
The committed wants to be reinstated, ensuring the branch can continue to be managed locally, as it has been successfully for over 30 years.
This closure has had a significant impact on the branch’s financial position, The closure has also reduced visitor numbers, creating a flow-on effect for local businesses who rely on tourism.
Your support will help protect the future of this much-loved community asset and assist in restoring local management.
Any contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
