Mooers Riverside Gate

We are asking for help to raise money to build a gate for the Mooers Riverside Cemetary. The gate pictured in the pastel oil drawing has been designed in the likeness of the original gate from nearly 200 years ago. It will be made of steel and painted Black. It will be custom made to fit the dimensions from the old gate. Jeff Leduc (Mooers Sheet Metal) has designed and will be building the new gate.

Donations will go towards the new gate and anything left will help with maintaining the cemetery.

All donatons are appreciated as we work to give our Mooers ancestors a respectful resting place.

Get to know this cemetary...

About six years ago, The Town of Mooers became responsible for maintaining the Old and New Riverside Cemetery. The town received a grant to replace the Old Riverside Cemetery fence, but there was not enough money left for a gate.

Some Mooers resident volunteers have been working on cleaning up the cemetery as it was overgrown with brush and fallen branches. The pillars where a gate once was have also been repaired and constructed by volunteers.

Resting in this cemetary are people from our founding families; Churchill, Shedden, Bosworth, Southwick and Fitch. These and many others were also veterans of various conflicts; the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish American War Memorial, WWI and WWII.

In recent news...

The Mooers Riverside Cemetary has been nominated and selected under two categories: Settlement/Exploration and Funerary Art. This cemetery is on the National Register of Historical Places by the department of the interior as of September 2018. A volunteer was able to write a grant for a Marker to properly mark this resting place for our founding ancestors of this region which now stands on the roadside of this cemetery. The foundation that gave the funds for this marker is clearly labeled at the bottom along with the date of the grant.
