Hello! My name is Devin Motani and I am a Boy Scout from Troop 101 in Morganville, New Jersey. I am currently a Life Scout and am trying to achieve the status of an Eagle Scout. Completing my Eagle Scout Service Project is one of my last steps to becoming an Eagle Scout. For my project, I decided to build a K9 Memorial at the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.
My father has been a Police Officer in Howell, New Jersey for the past 25 years and I have been a Marlboro Township Police Explorer for the past 3 years. Ever since I was young, I have always had a strong tie to the law enforcement community. Within law enforcement, I've always been fascinated by the work of police dogs (which are also known as K9s) and their handlers. It is amazing to see the added value that these animals bring to both military and law enforcement agencies around the world. However, I felt that they are not always memorialized as well as they should be. K9s put their life on the line just like police officers do, which is why they deserve to be respectfully memorialized and remembered forever.
As a Life Scout in my troop, I decided to build a K9 Memorial at the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office for my Eagle Scout Project. I chose this location because it is the central law enforcement agency in Monmouth County.
My goal is to raise about $30,000 to cover the cost of the life size K9 sculpture, a stone base, a small paved area, and engravings for any K9s that have to make the ultimate sacrifice. This memorial will be placed right in front of the Monmouth County Police Academy, which is located at 2000 Kozloski Road, Freehold, New Jersey 07728 .
I would greatly appreciate any contributions you can make towards my project. This will be a memory in law enforcement that will last a lifetime. I want handlers and their families to be able to come back years from now to visit the memorial, and remember their beloved K9s. Thank you!
