How Momo Came Into My Life

In 2012, I was starting a new nanny job and needed a car to drive the kiddos around. While browsing Facebook Marketplace for something reliable, I got a little distracted — I stumbled across a listing for a litter of Shih Tzu puppies. Oops.

When I went to see them, I found myself in a sketchy neighborhood full of rundown trailer homes. One tiny puppy stood out — she had yellow-stained paws and a round little pot belly. You always tell yourself you’re “just going to look,” but that’s a lie. I HAD to rescue her and take her home.

Once I got her home, I realized just how much help she needed. She had fleas, worms, and ticks. After some serious TLC and a round of de-worming, flea, and tick treatments, her personality came out — and wow, she was wild. She was an absolute terror at first, and I definitely thought, “What have I done?” more times than I can count.

Fast forward to 2025, and Momo and I have been best friends for 13 years. She’s been by my side through everything — moves, heartbreaks, job changes, sick days, and crazy weather. I’ve had other dogs before, but the bond Momo and I share is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. She’s my soul dog.

Why I’m Asking for Help

In August, I started noticing changes in Momo’s appearance and behavior. After some tests, an ultrasound revealed a tumor on her left adrenal gland and a nodule on her right adrenal gland. Following a specialist and surgical consultation, it was determined that surgery offers the best prognosis. Without it, she will only have 9–12 months.

I’m not someone who typically asks for help — especially financial help — but her surgery will be very costly, and I can’t do it alone. As many of you know, Momo means the world to me. She’s saved my life in more ways than I can count, and now it’s my turn to save hers.

She’s my "cutest, goodest, and bestest girl" — your support would mean the world to us.
