My name is Shanda Barker, owner of Heavenly Hands Wellness Spa.
I'm a licensed Nurturing of Mother Massage Therapist and Doula. Using my massage gift, I would like to help black mothers decrease maternal mortality death by giving free massage services. My passion is caring for women and infants through pregnancy, postpartum, and infant massage services.
In 2020, seeing the increase of black women's deaths who look like me dying from childbirth is "Horrifying "and "Heartbreaking." You wouldn't think racial criticism is still happening in the medical environment where people took an oath to care for everyone without any bias. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recently acknowledged that racial discrimination within the health care system contributes to the disproportionate number of pregnancy-related deaths among a minority. Data showed that black women were 3.3 times more likely than white women to suffer a pregnancy-related death.
With that being said, I would need your help by donating to the cause for the massage services. Mommies Helping Mommies is a campaign on mothers donating for massage services. This will help with maternal mortality death by supporting black mothers' and infants' health and lives.
