Mol's Sprint Triathlon
On the 17th of June, it will be 6 months (-1 day) until my 30th birthday, and I will be celebrating 401 days of sobriety! Despite the crushing sense of doom I feel at the state of the world, I am grateful to be alive and feel healthier and (largely) happier than ever.
Whilst in parts, a time for celebration, it brings space to think about my contribution to the world and the good I can bring. On April 16th 2025, the Supreme Court made a devastating ruling that under the Equality Act 2010, the terms “woman” and “sex” refer exclusively to biological sex at birth. The consequences of this decision (alongside Kier Starmer’s back-peddling) will be detrimental for the trans+ community, and will result in community-wide ambiguity about inclusive spaces and the dangerous policing of people’s bodies and identities. Be in no doubt, this will affect us all.
I want to raise £250 for Not A Phase, a grassroots charity that provides life-saving space and support for trans+ people. So, in a moment of sheer impulse, after completing Couch to 5k in November and swimming (never below water) twice a week, I decided I was doing a Sprint Triathlon! I gave myself three months to prepare, which included learning how to actually swim underwater (thanks Liv!) and exercising 5 to 6 days a week, whilst trying to maintain enough protein and calories (thanks Veganuary).
Instead of signing up for an organised triathlon (which seemed like additional effort and money!), my solo adventure will consist of 750m (30 laps) in the pool, 25km on the static bike, and a 5k outdoor run.
If you are not able to donate, you can support the trans+ community by:
- Amplifying trans voices rather than speaking over them on matters affecting their community
- Challenging misinformation about transgender issues when you encounter it
- Supporting organisations providing direct services to transgender individuals
- Contact your MP to express your concern about the ruling’s impact on transgender rights
Thank you for reading and donating what you can!!
