Mollie’s Cancer Wig Fundraising

My cousin Mollie as some of you may know has been found with a really rare gene called DICER1. This gene is a heightened risk for cancer in children and young adolescents. In Sept 2022 Mollie was found with a cancer tumour in her right ovary and it was removed successfully with an operation taking her ovary and fallopian tube with it.

Recently, only 4 months after her being clear of cancer, unfortunately it has returned but this time in her lungs. She will undergo Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment and Mollie would like to be proactive as to what happens with her long locks. Mollie has made the brave decision that before chemo starts she wants to cut her hair off and have it made into a wig to have back, keeping her dignity and visually what makes her who she is.

Wigs take a good while to make with real hair and the expense as you can imagine isn’t cheap.

To help with her wishes and to make this already devastating ordeal for her to be going through at 16, I want to try and lighten the load of worry off of her and the financial pressure from her mum, my wonderful auntie.

To help with the fundraiser I am running the 10k race for life on the 25th June 2023 in her honour. I’ve allowed Mollie to choose my fancy dress also and because I use to make jokes about her excessive hair from what her tumour was causing (at the time unknowing to me) she has chosen for me to run the race in a Chewbacca outfit … I’m already praying for cold weather that day.

If anyone knows Mollie knows she is a wonderful kid and deserves the world and I’m sure you will all join me in wanting to raise this target money for her wishes. Along with this. Any money raised over the target amount £50 will go to the cancer race for life and the rest with either also go there or a cancer specification of Mollies choice, for example, The Azaylia Foundation, The Princesses Trust etc.

Please give as little or as much as you can. It all helps to give this girl her wishes.
