Help Us Build a Safe Haven for Mohagany — and for Every Trans Woman Coming Home
We are Jemm and Dove, two peer supporters fundraising on behalf of Mohagany.
For more than two decades, Mohagany has navigated a world that was never built for her.
A proud Black trans woman, she has cycled in and out of jails and prisons—14 prison sentences and nearly 30 jail stays in 23 years—all while fighting simply to exist as her authentic self.
Yet even behind razor wire, Mohagany found purpose. Inside a men’s facility, she began “Mohagany’s Mission,” an informal network where she mentored other trans and gender-diverse people as they arrived. She shared the hard-won knowledge that helped her survive—how to file the right forms, stay safe on the yard, and hold on to hope. To the “new girls,” she was family when family was out of reach.
“I’m free now,” she says, “but I can’t stop thinking about the girls still stuck in that life—girls who don’t even know the community exists. I want Mohagany’s Mission to be that somebody.”
Why We’re Raising Funds
When trans women of color come home from incarceration, they face layers of discrimination—housing denials, job barriers, healthcare gaps, and violence—with almost no safety net. The result is a revolving door back to the system. Too many are released into homelessness, danger, and isolation. Mohagany knows what’s at stake—she lived it.
We’re raising funds to secure transitional housing where women like Mohagany can heal, rebuild, and be held in community.
Your donation will :
- Allow Mohagany to secure the physical housing space for herself and others in shared community
- Help break the cycle of incarceration and open the door to freedom—not just for Mohagany, but for every sister still searching for safety.
- Give folks a soft, safe, and affirming place to land upon their re-entry
Why It Matters
Black trans women are 10× more likely to experience homelessness and 4× more likely to be incarcerated. Safe spaces aren’t a luxury—they’re a lifeline. By investing in Mohagany’s Mission, you’re investing in dignity, safety, and long-term healing.
How You Can Help
- Donate whatever you can—every dollar goes directly to securing housing and support services.
- Share Mohagany’s story. Visibility saves lives.
- Stand with us—show your solidarity, volunteer, or connect us with resources.
Mohagany has survived the unimaginable. With your support, she can turn survival into liberation—not just for herself, but for every gender-vibrant person still fighting for a softer place to land.
Thank you for believing in second chances, radical love, and the power of chosen family.
