Help ensure the City of Mobile and its taxpayers aren't saddled with an unnecessary fine for doing the right thing!

On June 4th, 2020, the City of Mobile removed the statue of Admiral Raphael Semmes from public property in downtown Mobile. The City transferred the statue to the History Museum of Mobile, where it will be preserved and viewed in the appropriate historical context.

On June 15th, the Alabama Attorney General determined that the City of Mobile violated the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act and has issued a $25,000 fine.

This GoFundMe account is for Mobilians and friends from all backgrounds who want to help our beloved city with the fine. City leadership made the right choice removing the statue, a decision that can help unify us and move our community forward. Let's make sure they know we support them. With your help, the City of Mobile won't have to spend taxpayer dollars on this outrageous penalty.

The fine is due in 30 days. As such, we hope to raise the full amount of $25,000 by July 17th and will send the funds directly to the Alabama AG's office on behalf of the City of Mobile.
