When I was a kid, I was captivated by the sign-painting shop next to our local Pizza Hut. The owner sat in the open overhead garage door, hand-painting vibrant posters for deli specials and "Jewelry Sale" signs — working fast, precise, and alive with color. She let me watch up close sometimes, and it planted a seed in me.
Somewhere along the way I also fell hard for 1980s New York and LA graffiti photo books. I love the lettering, the urgency, the way it turned public space into public voice.

That seed has been growing.

I've spent time at protests over the past few years, and I keep noticing the same gap: there's real energy in the room, but no next step. Missed connections. People do their best to make signs, but think how far they could go with better materials and resources.

I want to provide those supplies with a mobile protest sign-making shop, a converted trailer that shows up at events and gatherings and turns recycled political yard signs into impressive protest posters, on the spot, for anyone who needs one.

On tone: the signs coming out of this trailer will be direct, but not inflammatory. The focus is accountability, not anger — messages built to make people think and talk, not just to vent. That's a deliberate choice. There's enough noise right now; I want this to add signal.

Some posters will be hand-painted by skilled artists. Others will be stenciled — laser-cut stainless steel and 3D-printed designs, sprayed fast and clean, shop-style. Either way, the goal is the same: give people a way to say something specific, well-made, and worth carrying.

What $8,000 builds
$3,000 — Trailer. A used trailer, purchased and structurally upgraded to serve as a mobile workspace.
$3,000 — Build-out. Fume filtration and ventilation for safe spray paint use, plus the interior fit-out to make the space functional on the road.
$2,000 — Materials. Paint, stencil stock, disposables, and prototyping supplies to keep the shop running at events.

These are working estimates, not fixed quotes — I'll post updates as real costs come in.

If we raise more than $8,000

Every dollar past the goal goes toward making this more capable and more sustainable:

Solar panels and battery storage, so the ventilation system runs without a generator or power cord
A second trailer, so this can reach more communities at once
Help — paying artists and volunteers instead of relying only on me
Why this, why now

I don't think a sign fixes anything by itself. But I think the act of making one — choosing the words, doing the work with your hands — is where a lot of real conviction gets built. This project is a bet that giving people that process, in public, alongside strangers who showed up for the same reasons, is worth doing.

If that's a bet you want in on, any amount helps get this trailer on the road.
