This is my friend Jaynie Black...she is with John a homeless man who cleans up the neighborhood around her apartment complex. He was wandering around the neighborhood in his socks when she first met him. She told him "hey John I see you like to pick up things around the neighborhood and if you put socks and shoes on I will feed soup...now he has a broom, shovel and a shopping cart and picks up leaves and makes mulch to put around the trees. He pick up litter, cigarette butts and even cleans the mud....all this so he can feel some dignity and get fed.
Without any help...every Sunday she packs up the trunk of her car with homemade soups, spaghetti, rice or beans, water, cups or bowls, spoons or forks and bread and takes it into Ballard and around and under the bridges to feed homeless people "everyone need nourishment" she says. This all comes out of her pocket with the exception, that if someone finds out what she is doing they will offer her a few bucks here or there or some rice or even clothing to help her cause.
Jaynie tells me that doing this keeps her humble..."when I am having a bad day or week and I go to feed the homeless, it is such a humbling experience I feel my life is not so bad".
She loves the people and has no problem asking them for hugs "everyone needs to be hugged" she doesn't care if they are dirty...she'll just wrap her arms around them and hugs them. She told me she finds the smell on her clothes comforting when she gets home, again another humbling experience.
Judy, a homeless woman asked Jaynie "why do you want to hug us, we are tweeker's." Jaynie's response is, because everyone needs to be loved and touched and at that moment Judy buried her head into Jaynie's chest...
A couple of the guys who are living in their truck and appear to be a bit cleaner don't come out but they open their window to allow Jaynie to hand them food....similar she says to them, "this is like the old fashion A & W foods getting curbside service, they reply you just need the roller skates and God Bless you!
All of these people say they love her...some stay in their tents and are scared and afraid but peep out when they are expecting her arrival. I asked her, don't you ever get scared? She says she gets leery and knows better and the people that she feeds tells her "don't go there" or "be careful over here", they respect her and protect her and look forward to her visit every Sunday in anticipation of the hot comforting food that she will bring to them between 1:45 and 2:00 pm...saying it is important to show up at that time as it is consistency for them and has never missed or been late a Sunday yet. She even makes sure that the animals are fed as well.
Jaynie lives a very simple life, she is a resident manager at an apartment complex in Seattle...her love of people, faith in a higher power, gratitude, grace and generosity truly makes her a gift to others and is an inspiration to me and I am proud to know her and call her my friend!
Jaynie is a humble person so I knew she would not ever do anything like this so I am starting this gofundme campaign for her, so that her passion can continue and possibly even feed more people...your support will mean that she will not always be out of pocket to purchase supplies needed such as...sanitary wipes to clean their faces, cups, cutlery, cups, napkins, bowls, proteins, beans, rice, noodles, water, bread etc., as Jaynie would say "there are always more to feed...everyone needs nourishment!"
She also takes donations of socks, warm gloves, coats, warm shirts, comfy shoes, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, underwear, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary wipes etc.
There has been an outpouring of love and support about Jaynie since King5 aired a lovely piece about her http://www.king5.com/news/local/seattle/seattle-woman-feeding-the-homeless/409753353 Jaynie is overwhelmed by the kindness and would appreciate any help that you would like to give.
Thank you so much & blessings to all!
