Hey everybody, long post alert. If you are thinking about trying to get exemption from the UK Hotel Quarantine, don't bother! I spent 5 weeks trying to get exemption and eventually it was flatly refused. Before you judge and say I shouldn't be travelling, let me tell you my story. My wife and daughter moved over in September (search me and you'll see my post with almost 600 likes), the day after they became residents my daughter fell ill at 3 1/2 months old which turned out to be a malignant brain tumour. There's was a cock up with my health insurance by my employer so we didn't have any until the day after Adeline was admitted. They initially agreed to pay for treatment but have since backtracked and haven't confirmed if they will or won't pay for anything not covered by insurance, but that's another story. The tumour was removed in Dubai but the Oncologist actually said that if we didn't have insurance then there was no point in looking at treatment as we wouldn't be able to afford it! My amazing wife was emailing anyone and everyone who's specialises in Children's Cancer and was put in touch with a doctor in Bristol (about an hour away from our UK base), he jumped on it and said to get back ASAP. We returned in January and Adley was straight in for treatment, she had another operation to remove 2 residual tumors (they missed one!) and is currently undergoing over a year's worth of Chemo. My employer agreed for me to work remotely from the UK for a few months but I had to return to Dubai to tie things up (tenancy needed renewing, cat was in cattery, car was stood up, etc). The hotel quarantine came into effect at this point, so now I am stuck. I can't get back to the UK to support my wife and baby girl until things change. The £1750 hotel bill is just too much for us, we could cover it but we have a relatively small pot of money that we don't know how long will last us as my wife can't go back to work due to our daughters condition, so it would have a knock on effect. I totally agree that people shouldn't just be travelling because they need a break or want a holiday, but sometimes people NEED to travel, and when restrictions are in place that don't give a shit about your circumstances, it can be very frustrating, distressing and just absolutely heartbreaking.
