Stories & Sustenance: A Culinary Tribute to Resilience

Tax deductible
Minnesota Les Dames d’Escoffier, a non-profit dynamic network of women leaders in the culinary and hospitality industries, is creating a cookbook that celebrates the cultural voices, traditions, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of Minnesota’s women-owned food businesses. This project is a response to the profound economic and emotional impacts experienced by these businesses amid the ICE “Operation Metro Surge” and broader challenges facing immigrant and women-led food businesses.

While Minnesota’s rich culinary landscape has always been rooted in diversity and innovation, recent enforcement actions and heightened economic pressures have disproportionately affected women-owned and immigrant-founded restaurants — beloved gathering spaces and cornerstones of local communities. These businesses are more than places to eat; they are cultural storytellers, economic engines, and sources of nourishment for families and neighbors across the state.

Produce & Publish: We are creating a beautifully designed, professionally produced cookbook that uplifts the voices, flavors, and resilience of Minnesota women restaurateurs.

Project Purpose & Impact
This cookbook is more than a collection of recipes — it is a platform for:

• Economic support: All proceeds will be returned directly to participating restaurants and community support partners, offering critical financial relief and sustaining operations.
• Visibility and advocacy: By centering stories of cultural heritage, resistance, and solidarity, the book will amplify public understanding of the challenges and contributions of Minnesota’s women restaurateurs.
• Community empowerment: Through narrative and food, the project will foster cross-cultural appreciation and inspire collective support for local businesses that anchor neighborhoods across the state.

Direct Support: A significant portion of the cookbook sales will go directly to the Minnesota’s women-owned food businesses to help them recover lost wages, operational costs and make changes to build back better.

Preserve History: Documenting a pivotal moment in Minnesota’s history through the lens of solidarity and strength.

Our Goal
We believe that by gathering in solidarity, one plate at a time, we can help these vital businesses thrive again. Your contribution helps us turn these stories of struggle into a legacy of recovery.

How You Can Help
Donate: Every dollar helps us get closer to the first printing.

Share: Spread the word to fellow foodies, community advocates and other organizations who believe in women-owned food businesses.

This project will be produced with integrity, inclusivity, and deep respect for the women whose stories we are honored to share.
Together, we can turn recipes into relief, stories into strength, and solidarity into tangible support. Let’s ensure these food businesses stay open for generations to come.
