Hello everyone! My name is Jessica and I am attempting to raise money to attend a Spanish immersion school and participate in a medical volunteer program with Maximo Nivel this summer in Cuzco, Peru. It is my goal to build on my intermediate-level Spanish skills and master the language in conversation. I will accomplish this through attending an intensive immersion program for several weeks while staying with a local Peruvian family. After the immersion courses, I will begin my volunteer program where my duties involve assisting with general check-ups, assisting with triage, taking blood pressure and other vital signs, and assisting patients during mealtimes. Of course my level of responsibility depends on my proficiency in the Spanish language, which is why the initial immersion is so essential.

With my recent acceptance to Loma Linda University Physician Assistant program, I have become profoundly aware of the need to give back to my community in the best way I know how- through medicine. The time spent in Peru will enable me to more effectively serve the large Hispanic population in Southern California while discovering the public health needs in underdeveloped nations.

By participating in this fund you will be contributing to my transportation fees, travel insurance, lodging, as well as material fees for the local clinic in Cuzco. Please help me achieve my goal of learning the Spanish language and helping the precious lives of others in Peru.
