Tammy's Fight Against Cancer
My momma Tammy has been relentlessly fighting stage 4 recurrent non-small cell lung cancer since 2015. The doctor described trying to treat her cancer as “playing whack-a-mole”. Shes gone through radiation 4 times now and came through a fighter. We always knew there’d be a chance of its return. In February of 2021, the cancer metastasized in her brain and became its own diagnoses. She went through brain surgery to remove a 4.6cm brain tumor, and then radiation to treat the area. Now here we are in 2025 and its ugly face has returned. She just went through her 6 rounds of radiation in a matter of a week. she’s moved in with me to have a better quality of life, she had been struggling to manage majority on her own.
Her life hasn’t been easy. She’s had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 10, and has had multiple questionable treatments throughout her childhood. As her life progressed she accumulated a number of ailments along the way. She’s been disabled for some years now, but worked every day of her grown life when she could. She instilled a wonderful work ethic in us. When she got locked out of her union job, she was on strike for a number of years. It slowed her activity way down, which you know the rule, a body in motion stays in motion, when she started slowing down so did her body. She developed osteoarthritis and degenerative bone disease which has caused her to break multiple bones, and have multiple replacements and rods in her joints.
Daily life is a struggle for both of us. Her fighting cancer and being the strongest she can for all of us, bearing an unnecessary guilt of feeling helpless, and me trying to be here for her in every way and still pay bills. We have countless doctors appointments and errands.
We aren’t asking anyone to support us, just offering a helping hand is enough. Our basic needs at this point are rent, bills, food and gas. We are also really in need of a stair lift, grab bars and a bed rail. My apartment wasn’t really set up for handicap, but it’s not impossible to make do.
Again, anything helps and we love and appreciate anyone who helps in anyway possible.
UPDATE: Thank you so much to all who’ve contributed! We did not expect this! It’s so appreciated!
