Kids Need Food

Hi, my name is Mr. Shearer and I am working to help the families in my neighborhood where I teach 4th grade. I work in a low income title1 school in Waimanalo Hawaii. Most of these families all fall under the poverty level and the few that don't are doing only slightly better. I have seen them struggling to get enough food and the basic necessities on the table for their children.  I usually have to provide school supplies for many of my students.
That was during the best of times, but now with the pandemic things are much worse! Many have lost their jobs and have little or no health benefits. Many are immigrants and have only basic education so when they do work it is in the base level jobs at minimum wage. Many have not received any help throughout this pandemic because they are not able to navigate the system, there is a huge backlog in the unemployment office, or they are not citizens or unqualified in some way. Others who have received some help have used it up long ago!
This support will help in a huge way! I have started in my class with a donation from my wife and kids, and randomly selected a family to receive a gift card from Costco for $100. I present the lucky winner with the card and if they need transportation I will arrange a ride, as I have a minivan. That’s it! I plan to continue randomly picking a different family each week until I have given them all a $100 gift card from Costco. (Once selected the name is removed from the next drawing until all get at least 1 winning draw.) I am a teacher with three children of my own so I cannot do this indefinitely, but with your help I can spread the list to include the whole school and have even more than one drawing a week. I hope to help as many as I can, one small family at a time!
