Some of you may have read the story I shared about my encounter with a homeless man, Bobby, last year. Just in case you didn't here's a recap: Last year I ran into a man at coney island. He was wrapped in as many layers as he could be. While waiting for my food in the drive thru the timid man walked a little closer to my car. He was just close enough to be heard but not close enough to make me feel unsafe. He quietly asked if I had any change to spare for him to get something warm in his belly. I asked what he wanted and ordered him some food. We engaged in conversation during our wait. I got his name and got to learn a little about Bobby. He wasn't a bad man, he was just in a tough spot. He also wanted to get back in to church once he was on his feet. I invited Bobby to church just as he was. He was so thankful for the food but declined my offer to come to church for now. He did promise I would see him one day again. My heart ached for Bobby as he went inside to eat his food saying that it was way more than he could eat at one time but thanking me as many times as his mouth could form the words. I still haven't run into Bobby again but I pray that he is doing well.

I have always had a passion for helping people. My mission for this fundraiser is to be able to provide some type of comfort to the homeless as they try to brave the elements. Warming shelters fill fast and limited. So, I decided to help by providing small care packages for homeless around the city.

Last year was a success thanks to everyone that helped out. We were able to provide almost 100 bags to people without shelter. Once again we would like to include hand, body and foot warmers- like the ones people wear on ski trips. I would also like to include socks, gloves and a few protein bars.

To make this possible once again I need your help. I can't do this on my own. Your donation is greatly appreciated. If a monetary donation isn't possible passing out a few packages is also an option. I simply keep 5-10 in my car at any given time and pass them out to people as i come across them. I also make special trips to areas that are known to the homeless population to reach more people.

I know this season has been an unusually warm one but it's Michigan and it will get colder. Let's try to get this started before that cold weather gets here.

Let's help keep our brothers and sisters warm this winter. I would like to do this at least once a year with us reaching more people each time. I would also like to open up a shelter of my own at some point. I thank you all for your continued support and assistance.
