This October, two families—myself, my wife, and our two boys, along with our close friends and their four kids—are heading out on a privately organised mission trip to a remote village in Bali.
We’ll be living in the village, working side-by-side with the locals to help build something they’ve said they desperately need: a proper access road.
When my friend visited the village earlier this year and asked how we could best support them, their response was humble but urgent: “We need a better road.”
Why This Road Matters
The village is tucked away in the hills, and their only access road is dangerously narrow, unpaved, and often becomes unusable in the wet season. This makes it extremely hard to get medical help, attend school, or even access basic supplies.
A stable road doesn’t just make life easier—it brings:
- Safe travel for children and the elderly
- Reliable access to education, healthcare, and markets
- Connection with the outside world
This road will open up long-term opportunities and improve quality of life in ways that last far beyond our short stay.
What We’re Doing
We’ve committed to take action, and we’re doing it the right way:
✅ We've developed a formal proposal and secured approval from local village leadership and government authorities
✅ We’ve already sourced the materials, equipment, and local labour
✅ We are covering all of our own travel and living costs—flights, food, transport, and accommodation
✅ Our families will live and serve in the village during the mission, helping build the road and assisting in the local school
✅ Our children will help teach English and gain a life-changing perspective on service, humility, and gratitude
We are asking for $15,000 AUD to cover only the construction costs:
- Cement, rock, sand, and other raw materials
- Rental of heavy machinery
- Transport and delivery of supplies
- Skilled local labour to assist and guide the work
This isn’t a holiday. It’s a mission trip of service, and we’re committed to doing the work with our own hands, together with the local community.
