#Support SafeHarbor Shelter Africa....
Hello family , it's Simon, Daniel, Philips and Jessica . We're the team leader of SafeHarbor Shelter Africa....
SafeHarbor Shelter Africa is a vital corner of hope for so many homeless LGBTQ+ individuals. It’s a place where they can take a shower, have a hot meal once in a while, find warmth when it’s cold, and receive medication when needed. For those at the highest risk, we help them escape to nearby countries where it is a bit safer, and they can start their lives anew.
In the wake of Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill, signed into law by President Museveni, the LGBTQ+ community faces an alarming crisis. The situation is perilous, with the threat of imprisonment, torture, and even the death penalty looming over our lives. We urgently need your support to provide a lifeline for those in immediate danger.
Challenges Faced by LGBTQ+ Persons in Our Community
LGBTQ+ people in Africa, mainly Uganda are subjected to extreme discrimination, violence, and social exclusion. The Anti-Homosexuality Bill has exacerbated these issues, leading to:
Violence and Persecution: LGBTQ+ individuals face physical attacks, harassment, and abuse from family members, neighbours, and even strangers. The law has emboldened perpetrators, making the community even more vulnerable.
Homelessness: Many LGBTQ+ individuals are disowned by their families and evicted from their homes, leaving them with nowhere to turn. This is why SafeHarbor Shelter is so critical, providing a safe haven for those who have been cast out.
Limited Access to Healthcare: Fear of discrimination and arrest prevents many LGBTQ+ people from seeking medical help. At our shelter, we provide access to necessary medication and healthcare services.
Economic Hardship: Due to widespread discrimination, LGBTQ+ individuals often struggle to find employment, leaving them in dire financial situations.
Mental Health Issues: The constant threat of violence, discrimination, and social rejection leads to severe mental health issues among LGBTQ+ individuals, including depression and anxiety.
How Your Donations Help
Your donations are essential in sustaining SafeHarbor Shelter and supporting our mission. They will directly fund:
Keeping the shelter running: Ensuring that our shelter remains a safe and welcoming space for all who need it.
Providing highly needed medication: Access to healthcare and medication is critical for the well-being of our community members.
Ensuring access to clean and safe water: Clean water is a basic necessity that we strive to provide to everyone at the shelter.
Transporting LGBTQ+ individuals to neighbouring countries for safety: For those at the highest risk, we arrange safe passage to countries where they can rebuild their lives.
Bail for imprisoned LGBTQ+ people: We assist in securing the release of those who have been unjustly imprisoned.
Emergency accommodation costs: Temporary housing solutions for those who are in immediate danger.
Legal and medical fees: Covering the costs of legal representation and medical treatment for those who need it.
Our initial goal is to raise funds for 50 at-risk LGBTQ+ persons under our care.
Your support can save lives. Please donate to help us provide safety and hope to those in dire need.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
