Misfit Charities Holiday Run for Funds

On Christmas day I will be doing a charity run to raise funds for the Jacksonville based charity Recovery Rent (recoveryrent.org). Their mission is to help men and women who have successfully completed a drug/alcohol rehabilitation program and going directly to a sober living facility once leaving treatment to increase their odds at staying sober, but do not have the means.
Their goal is to help bridge the gap by paying their rent for the first week or two. This helps them not stress about finances, owing money, or even securing a bed at a reputable sober living facility.
So, to honor, raise funds, and bring awareness to this transition I will be running from Beaches Recovery (Beachesrecovery.com) in Atlantic beach, to the 4th street sober house (Alcoholic Service Center) in the heart of Springfield in downtown Jax. The run will be 20 miles long, starting on 3rd St. then heading all the way down Beach Blvd. into downtown. I’m predicting it’ll take about 5 or 6 hours. Should be fun!
The goal is to raise 1000.00. That could help a couple people get a couple weeks of rent and help get some ground under their feet.
Speaking from experience, this moment in someone’s recovery can be very daunting. It’s a shame to see someone put all the work into getting through a whole treatment program just to lose it all because they don’t have anywhere to go. It happens. Way more often than we’d like to see.
So, lets be inspired by the season of giving to help some good people who are actually fighting to make positive changes in their life by getting and staying clean and sober. Lets get in the fight with them and do whatever can do to help!
We do recover!
