A Miracle for Glenda

Donation protected
Thank you for helping us reach our goal. Let's keep going. We need to keep raising funds for Glenda. Breaking free from homelessness is a very difficult challenge, and she will need all the help we can get. Thank you all.

Here's how this campaign started: For over a month now, I’ve been crossing a homeless woman in my neighborhood, near Dupont Circle. I never had the chance to speak with her until late last night, while walking my dog Maxwell. It was pouring rain.

Glenda shared her story with me. From a difficult childhood, endless medical bills—which she still has no way of paying back—and an increasing waitlist to have a roof over her head, she prays every night that something will change. Every day, she goes to the church across the street to get any updates on the waitlist for any kind of housing. She has been crossing that street for 6 months now, hoping for a miracle.

This holiday, we can make this miracle happen for Glenda — together.

I asked Glenda if she had any plans for Thanksgiving. She didn’t. I had already cancelled my travel plans due to COVID, so I invited her over for a socially-distanced feast at my home. I had never done anything like this before. The conversations we shared — about her life, her favorite movies, science, and so much more — were unforgettable.

But no one should ever have to sleep outside because they don’t have a home. This shouldn’t be happening in America. This is wrong.

If you can, please consider donating something to help Glenda. She is an incredible person, and she needs our help. The funds will be divided into 2 buckets. Much of it will be spent as she and I work together to get her back on her feet (find work, put together her resume, set up bank accounts, create a sustainable network of people, get new clothes for job interviews, get health insurance, etc). The other portion will go into a savings so that she always has something in the account. Of course we would love to raise far more than $2,500, so please help us exceed this goal. The more we can raise, the more we can help Glenda this holiday season.

Thank you all, and have a happy holidays.

With love,
Jonah Bryson
