James (“Peace”) Willbanks, a long-time friend of mine, has faced an unimaginable hardship. On Monday, June 29th, while sitting in the shade near the entrance to Clark’s Market parking lot in the Village of Oak Creek, south of Sedona, James was run over by a large, late model pickup truck with dually rear tires. The driver did not stop, and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an ongoing investigation. James, age 45, suffered two broken legs and a broken arm. The impact could have been fatal or left him permanently disabled, but thankfully, he survived in what we’re calling the “Miracle at the Market.”
James has been homeless for some time, but he is known in the community as honest, kind, and always willing to share what little he has with others in need. He has a loyal dog who has been with him since puppyhood. Despite his circumstances, James has made many local friends who admire his generosity and spirit.
All funds raised will go toward James’s rehabilitation, medical bills and repairing his aging van, which serves as a temporary home for him and his dog. If enough is raised, it will go toward securing a place for them to live while James seeks a job in the area. Your support will help James recover and find hope and meaning in the community he loves. Please consider donating to give James a chance at a brighter future.
