Minivan for Syrian refugee family

Of the 10,000 Syrian Refugees that the US has accepted, San Diego has welcomed 1000 of them. Through Heart4Refugees our family has adopted the Maghmouma family for the holidays and beyond.

Meet Noura (10) , Louna (9),  Leen (5), Mouhamad (2) and Yousef (1). Their parents are Lina and Farid.

The Maghmouma family has been in the US since October and are living in a 2 bedroom apartment in El Cajon. They are originally from Hamah, Syria. They traveled around Syria to safer cities staying with family and then stayed in Jordan for a year with family before coming to San Diego.

Farid is still looking for work. He created orthotic shoe inserts back in Syria.  He and Lina are in school every day to learn English. They are so incredibly gracious and appreciative of the assistance they have received from Heart4refugees.org.

100% of the money from this campaign will go directly towards purchasing a used mini-van for this family.

This campaign is coordinated with Heart4Refugees, a non-profit based in San Diego that seeks to help the Syrian refugees who have been resettled here and support them during their transition to their new lives in the US.

I will not be giving funds directly to the family as Hearts4Refugees.org recommends against it. Their guidelines strongly recommend that funds be used on the families behalf via the volunteer instead, so I will withdrawal funds on the families behalf into my personal bank account and purchase the used minivan.

My name is Melissa McCool, I live in Encinitas, CA with my husband and three children. Watching the stories coming out of Syria has been heartbreaking and I truly believe in the power of all of us as individuals– if we all do something small we can make big changes. There has never been a more important time to step up and help those who need it most.

Our 10-year-old son has made the first donation from his piggy bank. ($101)
