Help Our Class Build Mini Library Boxes as a Service Project
I’m a teenager who's part of a homeschool cooperative, and this semester, our class is working on a meaningful service project. Our goal is to build three or more mini library boxes that will be placed in locations where they will be appreciated. These mini libraries will be filled with quality books, allowing children and other community members to borrow/exchange them at their convenience, 24/7, all based on the honor system. We need your help to raise funds soon because our service project is due May 2nd!
Initiatives like this can have a profound impact on children. A 2024 observational study of 768 children who frequented spots with mini libraries found that "92% of children reported having more access to books" because of these mini libraries. Additionally, "children who visit [these mini libraries] read an average of 1.1 additional days per week." This data shows the substantial positive impact on children that this service project can have (https://littlefreelibrary.org/about/news-media/study-little-free-librarys-influence-on-children-reading).
This initiative not only promotes and enables self-education but also encourages honesty, as it trusts people to return the books instead of taking and keeping them.
The library box design we will use is made to be extra sturdy and long-lasting. One of my classmates worked on designing them.
My class is exploring different ways to gather donations, whether they be funds or supplies, so our GoFundMe donation goal may be updated as things continue to move forward.
Thank you so much for your support as we work to make a positive impact in the community!!!
