Working alongside Minga and Shawn in my clinic, Healthy Living Family Medicine, has been been transformative to me.
This has allowed me to see the power of their work - healing others through the mastery gained by years of dedication to their practices, and through the joy and creativity they find in their work. I am moved by how deeply present they are in sharing their work with the community. Their practice is their lives and it changes the world around them.
I am so blessed to know, work with and love Shawn and Minga. They are part of my children's village and I am incredibly excited to get to be a part of the village for their new little one. They have made my life as a working mother better and easier. Please join me in supporting them and helping make their lives better and easier as well.

Minga and Shawn began building the flame of the love they share almost 12 years ago. Their relationship has only grown deeper during this time and talk about bringing another life into this circle began in earnest not long after they came together. Once relocated in the pacific northwest, it was hoped that their larger family would begin but it didn’t turn out to be so easy. They tried for many years during this time to conceive but with no luck despite much effort to the point of letting go of this dream. Five months ago they were blessed and ecstatic to find that Minga was carrying a small package of life in her womb. This little life is entering this world with clear intention and years of yearning. Although their hearts are filled with love and joy for this little being there are areas that could make his entry into this life much easier.
Minga runs her yoga therapy private practice, teaches classes and has limited the amount of travel she has typically done in the past in order to make a more hospitable environment for the little one. She’s recently started a yoga bolster business based in Portland in order to make her living closer to home. She is in the beginning stages of working with clients remotely through the Energetic Fertility Method also to shift her business closer to home. In addition she is creating an online prenatal Self Care Essentials class as she moves through the pregnancy.
Shawn is currently in school full time finishing his undergrad in pre-medicine and will begin an accelerated 3 year master's degree program in oriental medicine at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in fall of 2017. He is also maintaining his private practice as a certified nutritional therapist and licensed massage therapist, juggling responsibilities between home, work and school on a daily basis.
There are many exciting potentials on the horizon in all of these pursuits and many gestations happening simultaneously that are coming to fruition! But all of these elements occurring at once present many challenges especially with finances.
Their wish is to have a birth with as little intervention as possible. Minga has insurance which will allow her to have one of eight midwives (depending on whose shift it is that day) attend the birth in a hospital room. They are grateful to have access to a hospital in the event of an emergency but hope to bring their little one into this world in a less hostile environment. Purely due to Minga’s age she is considered “high risk” and they are already being challenged by the fears of practitioners in the standard medical system. They don’t view birth as a condition or pathology so would like to avoid this route as much as possible. They have found some midwives who they love and who have lowered their rates to help accommodate them and fully support their intention of having their birth outside the hospital environment, because of Mingas stellar health. They are also taking natural birthing classes to prepare Shawn for being the birthing coach and primary support through the birthing process and beyond. The expense of their chosen birthing team is significant to their finances but feels necessary to their efforts in bringing the little one into this world in a good way.
Beyond the birth they have the realistic view that there needs to be time for Minga and baby not only to bond but to recover from their heroic process. Being a business owner for her entire adult life has had its rewards but maternity leave is not one of them. Their hope is to give their little one a calm and peaceful entry and proper amount of grounded connection with his or her mama for the first few months of life. It is for these intentions and expenses that they are reaching out to their chosen family and blood family for any amount of support you may be willing and able to offer. Their gratitude will see no bounds in whatever your means will allow.
If your life has ever been touched by Minga and Shawn in healing ways, if you feel that you have been opened and changed by either one of them in any way, please consider doing what you can to hold this precious space for the transformation of their lives to the next phase of their evolution. Thank you so much for your time, energy and love.
