Minden American Legion Post 437

Hello, my name is James Handy, I am a current officer at the Minden American Legion Post 437 in Minden, IA. On April 26th, an EF3 tornado decimated our small town of 600. Many homes completely destroyed, many others severely damaged, with nearly half of our town affected including many businesses that are vital to the livelihood of a small town. The Minden American Legion Post was included in this destruction, with heavy damage to the building causing wall and ceiling collapse.

The Minden Legion is a long standing post that is ran by proud veterans who have served our country stateside and abroad. We have veterans spanning several foreign wars and all advocate patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.

Our building not only serves as a place for our organization to function out of, for our American Legion Auxiliary to operate their support of veterans and families, but also a rental space for the community to host birthday parties, family gatherings, graduations etc. In a small town, space is limited and the Legion serves as an affordable outlet to host larger events.

We have always functioned on community support in the form of donations at our annual fundraising events with the most famous being our Friday night fish fry's during Lent every year. We have fabulous participation from not only our local community but surrounding communities as well, with people driving 60+ miles to get some of our fish.

We need support in our rebuilding efforts from all those who have supported us in the past and anyone who can help keep the Legion serving the community and veterans who have fought for our American Freedoms! Funds will be used to rebuild and repair the legion building.

We plan on having drive through types of events for meals to help fundraise as well, so look for details on social media and newspapers.
