Islamic Center of Morrisville Minbar Construction

Assalam Walaikum and hello, my name is Nabeel Balighuddin, and I am a 17-year-old junior at Green Hope High School. I'm currently a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 373B, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, that is chartered by the Muslim American Society. I've been with my Troop ever since 8th Grade and I am currently a Life Scout working toward earning my Eagle Rank, the highest rank in the BSA. In order to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the Life Scout is required to finish several requirements including leading and fundraising a beneficial service project.

 

For my Eagle Project, I will be constructing a Minbar for the Islamic Center of Morrisville. The Islamic Center of Morrisville is a Mosque located in Morrisville, NC, founded in Ramadan of 2009. The Muslim community who live and thrive in Morrisville, West Cary, or` Research Triangle Park come to the Islamic Center of Morrisville to pray their daily Islamic Prayers, attend Islamic Events, and more. The Muslim Community has grown remarkably, and the Islamic Center of Morrisville frequently gives the Muslim Community halaqas, short talks (khatiras), and lectures for Jummah (Friday Prayer). Not only as a Life Scout, but as a Muslim, I have been to many other Islamic Centers around Wake County, and for Friday prayers, I have noticed almost all the Islamic Centers utilize a proper Minbar during their Islamic gatherings. A minbar is a raised platform that Imams (Muslim leader who leads daily prayers) utilize to convey any lecture or short talk. The Islamic Center of Morrisville is in crucial need of a proper minbar for imams to perform halaqas, short talks (khatiras), and lectures for Jummah Prayer (Friday Prayer). Not only does utilizing a Minbar deliver a sense of importance towards the audience and augment the speaker's voice, but it is symbolic as it is seen as the seat of the Imam and symbolizes the authority the Imam holds.

 

Now, I'll need $1,750 to buy all of the resources and materials I'll need to turn my idea into a reality, which I can only raise with your support! All donations will be used solely for this purpose, and will benefit not only my service project, but also Morrisville's thriving Muslim community. It's not just about completing my Eagle Rank; it's also about leaving a lasting impression on this thriving Islamic Center.
